NEW DELHI: India’s young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased impeccable composure and confidence, notching up his fourth career Test century during the opening Test of the five-match series against Australia in Perth. This is also his first century Down Under in his first match on Australian soil.
Jaiswal reached the milestone with a six over third-man region off Josh Hazlewood, bringing up his triple-figure mark in style.
After falling for a duck in the first innings to Mitchell Starc, Jaiswal bounced back brilliantly, smashing eight fours and three sixes in his 205-ball century.

This is Jaiswal’s third century of 2024, following his sensational knocks of 209 against England in Visakhapatnam and an unbeaten 214 in Rajkot.
The left-hander has become the third Indian batter to score a Test century on maiden appearance in Australia. ML Jaisimha was the first, scoring 101 in Brisbane during the 1967-68 series, followed by Sunil Gavaskar’s 113 at the same venue in 1977-78.
Jaiswal joined the elite list of Indian batters with three Test hundreds in a calendar year before turning 23, a feat previously achieved by legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Vinod Kambli, and Sunil Gavaskar.
Jaiswal is also the first Indian opener since KL Rahul in 2014-15 to score a Test century in Australia.
Jaiswal is among the select group of cricketers to have scored a century on Test debut.
He announced his arrival on the international stage with a stunning 171 against the West Indies in 2023 at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.
Jaiswal’s Test centuries:
100* vs Australia – 2024, Perth
214* vs England – 2024, Rajkot
209 vs England – 2024, Visakhapatnam
171 vs West Indies – 2023, Roseau
