Won’t let Congress-NC implement Pakistan’s agenda in J&K: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: PM Modi on Wednesday accused Congress and its ally National Conference of toeing Islamabad’s line after Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif recently endorsed NC’s demand for restoration of Articles 370 and 35A.
Referring to Asif’s remarks made on a Pakistani TV channel, PM Modi told an election rally at Katra in Jammu region, “There may not be enthusiasm in J&K about the Congress-National Conference alliance, but the neighbouring country is very enthusiastic about them.”
“They (the alliance) have made it an election issue.Pakistan and the National Conference-Congress alliance are on the same page in J&K to restore Articles 370 and 35A,” Asif said in an interview with Geo TV. He went on to say there was “high chance” of Congress-NC winning the polls and coming to office in the UT.
Pakistan itself has exposed Congress-NC alliance: PM Modi
Speaking at Katra, PM Modi said, “Congress and NC want to implement Pakistan’s agenda in Jammu & Kashmir. But we will not allow that here. No power in the world can bring back Article 370 in J&K,” the PM said as he asserted that Pakistan itself has exposed the Congress-NC alliance.
Home minister Amit Shah also hit out at Congress over Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif’s endorsement of the demand for restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, saying that the Pakistan minister’s remarks are evidence that the neighbouring country and Congress have the “same intentions and agenda”.
He said, “Be it asking for proof of air strikes and surgical strikes against terrorists or saying objectionable things about Indian Army, the tune of Rahul Gandhi’s Congress and Pakistan has always been the same and Congress has always been hand-in-glove with the anti-national forces.”
While NC made restoration of Articles 370 and 35A its chief election plank, Congress, which had initially opposed their abro-gation, has not spelt out its current position.
Shah and former I&B minister Anurag Thakur ridiculed the promise of restoration of the twin provisions which BJP has blamed for stoking secessionist tendencies. “Congress and Pakistan forget there is Modi govt at the Centre, hence neither Article 370 nor terrorism is going to come back in Kashmir,” Shah said.
