Woman dies after undergoing 6 cosmetic surgeries in a day: Details of the shocking incident

Multiple cosmetic surgeries have claimed a life in China. As per media reports, a woman died after undergoing 6 cosmetic surgeries within 24 hours. She underwent double eyelid surgery, nose job, liposuction on thighs and injection of fat into face and breast.
As per South China Morning Post, the woman named Liu had her first cosmetic surgery on December 9 and on December 11 after completing six procedures and after being discharged from the clinic she “suddenly collapsed in the clinic.”
The autopsy report showed that she died from “acute respiratory failure due to pulmonary embolism after liposuction”, the media reported. Liu’s family sued the clinic seeking compensation of 1.18 million yuan which is approximately US$168,000.
After court hearings, the compensation was reduced by the court acknowledging only the partial responsibility of the clinic. “The assessment concluded that the clinic failed to assess the risk of venous blood embolism, identifying certain errors in their medical practices that were causally related to the patient’s death,” Li Shan, a judge at Jiangnan District People’s Court of Nanning City told the media.
The 32 year old leaves behind two kids aged 8 and 4.

“Six surgeries in one day? Does the clinic have no common sense?”

Liu’s case got nationwide attention. Reported by state media CCTV, the incident has got more than 50 millions views on social media.
People have blamed the clinic for its failure in considering the risks of doing 6 surgeries in a day. “Six surgeries in one day? Does the clinic have no common sense? Did they not consider the risk of complications, especially with liposuction, which can easily lead to blood clots?” one individual has said; “This clinic has no conscience! They persuaded a rural woman to take 40,000 yuan in loan for cosmetic surgery. This is outrageous! And then they botched the procedures and even haggled over compensation. Are they even human?” said another.

Risks of botched cosmetic procedure

Botched cosmetic procedures carry significant physical, emotional, and financial risks, impacting both appearance and overall health. When cosmetic procedures are performed improperly or by unqualified practitioners, complications such as infections, scarring, nerve damage, and tissue necrosis can occur. These issues can lead to disfigurement and may require additional corrective surgeries, which are costly and may not fully restore the desired appearance.
In some cases, botched procedures lead to permanent physical damage, such as impaired muscle function or asymmetry, affecting daily life and self-esteem. Non-sterile conditions and improper techniques increase the likelihood of infections and other complications that may even be life-threatening, especially in invasive procedures like liposuction or facelifts.
The psychological impact of a failed cosmetic procedure can also be profound, often causing distress, regret, and depression. Patients may experience a significant drop in self-confidence, leading to social withdrawal and even mental health challenges.
Botched cosmetic work highlights the importance of researching qualified, licensed practitioners and clinics that adhere to safety standards. Thorough consultations, realistic expectations, and understanding potential risks are crucial in making informed decisions and minimizing the likelihood of adverse outcomes.
