V-C discussed ways to include Indian Knowledge System in the curriculum. ahmedabad news

Atul Kothari, national secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Trust, on Thursday said the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) should be divided into subjects and every technical university should be allotted one subject.

IKS has been recommended by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for inclusion in the curriculum at all levels of education.

Kothari gave this example on the inaugural day of ‘All India Technical Universities Vice Chancellor’s Conclave’ on NEP-2020 Madhya Pradesh Where a high-powered committee constituted by the state government has allotted 27 subjects – one to each university of the state.

“If we have 31 technical universities in the country, each can be given one subject of IKS. Such subject wise planning should be implemented in the times to come for better implementation of IKS, which I will refer to as Indian Knowledge System and not as Indian Knowledge System…,” Kothari said. IKS was established in 2020 as an innovation cell at the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Ministry of Education (MoE). To implement the IKS, the University Grants Commission (UGC) constituted an expert committee to prepare guidelines.

Kothari said that if IKS is implemented effectively, 70 to 80 percent of NEP will be implemented automatically. NEP 2020 aims to integrate IKS with contemporary knowledge to address current and future challenges.

AICTE Chairman TG Seetharam said the IKS Phase-2 project was recently launched with an allocation of Rs 490 crore for the next five years.
