NEW DELHI: Team India batter Tilak Varma on Saturday etched his name into cricketing history with a jaw-dropping 151 off just 67 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, becoming the first Indian to achieve a 150+ score in T20 cricket.
Tilak also became the first-ever batter to score three consecutive centuries in T20 cricket following back-to-back hundreds against South Africa in the recently concluded T20I series.

Playing for Hyderabad at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot, Varma’s innings was a spectacle of power and precision against a depleted Meghalaya side, propelling his team to an imposing total of 248/4 in 20 overs against Meghalaya.
With a scintillating strike rate of 225.37, Varma showcased a range of aggressive strokes, smashing 14 fours and 10 sixes during his knock.
Remarkably, he hit boundaries on 76.82% of his scoring shots, with a boundary coming every 2.79 balls.
Varma’s innings included only 11 dot balls, contributing to an impressively low dot-ball percentage of 16.42%.
The innings also highlighted his impeccable game sense and control. Varma, having been recently retained by Mumbai Indians for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, ran 29 singles and three doubles, showing he wasn’t just reliant on boundary hitting but adept at rotating the strike.
His breathtaking knock laid the foundation for a commanding total, which left Meghalaya reeling at 44/3 after 8 overs, taking the game well out of their reach.
As fans and experts applaud this record-breaking feat, Varma’s star continues to rise, solidifying his reputation as a player to watch.
His extraordinary performance has elevated him to the pantheon of T20 greats and justified why he has been touted as one of the next big things in Indian cricket
