Much to the disappointment of Diljit Dosanjh’s fans, the release of his highly anticipated period drama Punjab ’95 has been delayed. The singer-actor himself took to social media to announce this, explaining that the release date had to be pushed due to unforeseen circumstances. However, he did not specify the reasons behind the delay.
“We are very sorry and it pains us to inform you that the movie Punjab ’95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control,” he posted on his Instagram stories. The film’s director Honey Trehan also shared the same message. This comes shortly after the movie’s makers unveiled its first teaser, garnering significant attention. The promo video had also confirmed that Punjab ’95 would release date on February 7.
Previously, The Indian Express had reported that the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer, which has been stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for more than a year, was set for an international release on the scheduled date, though its producers have not yet confirmed whether the movie will be released in India. The CBFC had initially suggested 120 cuts to the film, which is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
A key figure in post-independence Punjab, Khalra exposed the state police’s extrajudicial killings of Sikh youth during the militancy in the early 90s. He was kidnapped and murdered in 1995 and six police officers were later convicted for his abduction and killing.

Khalra’s wife Paramjit Kaur Khalra too criticised the CBFC’s demand for the cuts, asserting that the biopic was made with the family’s approval and should be released unaltered. However, it now seems the film must wait longer to receive an official green signal.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, Punjab ’95 features cinematography by KU Mohanan and editing by A Sreekar Prasad. The movie also features Arjun Rampal, Jagjeet Sandhu, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan and Suvinder Vicky in key roles.
