New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly (BJP) leaders and workers Suvendu Adhikariprotest march against Bangladesh High Commission In Kolkata on Wednesday.
The demonstration was held in response to the recent arrest iskcon bangladesh priest Chinmoy Krishna Das By Dhaka Police. Carrying placards and raising slogans, they marched towards the High Commission.
Giving details of the protest march, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said, “Our 8 MLAs have got permission to go inside (Bangladesh High Commission). Our MLAs from border areas including LOP (Suvendu Adhikari) will go, the rest of us will go outside. We are concerned about our Hindu brothers and sisters who are being killed, especially about the arrest of Chinmoy Das Prabhu. Want unconditional release of Chinmay Das, we will not remain silent, Bengal will not remain silent, Hindus of Bengal will not remain silent.”
Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, chief spokesperson of bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote was arrested at Dhaka airport on Monday when he was preparing to board a flight to Chattogram. Police, led by spokesman Talebur Rahman, confirmed the detention, but refrained from disclosing specific charges. Das has reportedly been charged with treason for disrespecting the Bangladeshi flag during the October rally in Chattogram, where he and 18 others were implicated. Das, known for his leadership of protests against anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh, was taken to a police station after his arrest.
ISKCON leaders demanded justice
Several ISKCON leaders have condemned the arrest and demanded justice for the arrested Hindu priest.
ISKCON Kolkata vice-president Radharaman Das condemned the arrest and said, “…it is sad when fingers are pointed at an organization (in Bangladesh) without any evidence.”
Dr Mrityunjay Kumar Roy, General Secretary of ISKCON, Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance, also protested against the arrest. He said, “We strongly oppose this. What has ISKCON done?…ISKCON is a peaceful organization that talks about Shri Krishna and works for the welfare of the poor.”
