Preparations are underway at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island to host PM Modi and thousands of Indian diaspora members on September 22.

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to the US, preparations are underway at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York’s Long Island to host the PM and thousands of Indian community members on September 22.

PM Modi will visit the US from September 21 to 23, during which he will take part in the Quad Summit and address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Indian diaspora will get an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister in New York during the mega community event. The local media reports claimed that over 24,000 Indian-Americans have registered to attend his community event on September 22 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, which has a seating capacity of 15,000.

The event, titled “Modi & US: Progress Together,” will be a celebration of the diversity and success of the Indian-American community, featuring cultural performances and appearances by prominent Indian-American figures, said the organisers.

While Indian Americans from at least 42 states are expected to attend the event, the response has been particularly strong from the tri-state area. “We’re committed to ensuring as many people as possible can participate in this historic event,” said a key organiser of the event.

‘Can’t Wait to Meet Him’: Indian Diaspora

From children to adults, the members of the Indian diaspora exuded fervour and excitement to meet PM Modi during his US visit and praised his leadership in India.

Expressing his excitement, Prakash Shantilal Patel, a member of the Indian diaspora in the US, said, “We are super excited to meet him. PM Modi is one of the excellent Prime Ministers of the country and he is famous in the world, so we are excited. Around 5,000 to 10,000 people from the Gujarati community will meet him. We will talk to him if we get a chance.”

Arav Verma, a child from the Indian diaspora, said, “I am very excited to see PM Modi and I cannot wait to meet him. He did a lot of good stuff for the country. He is one of my favourite leaders of all time.”

In 2019, PM Modi addressed a similar community event ‘Howdy Modi’ at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, where he was accompanied by former President Donald Trump. Like the previous visit, this year’s visit to the US also comes just weeks before the country goes to the presidential polls in November with a race to the top office between Trump and Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
