NEW DELHI: After Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, the Election Commission of India on Friday checked the helicopter of Union home minister Amit Shah after he arrived at Maharashtra‘s Hingoli for the campaign for the upcoming assembly election.
Amid the ongoing controversy over checking Thackery’s bag on the last three occasions, the minister posted a video on X with the captions, “Today, during my election campaign in Hingoli assembly constituency of Maharashtra, my helicopter was inspected by Election Commission officials.”
“BJP believes in fair elections and healthy election system and follows all the rules made by the honourable Election Commission. We all must contribute to a healthy election system and perform our duties in keeping India as the strongest democracy in the world,” he added.
A few days ago Thackeray had asked the EC officials if they had checked bag of anyone else, and added that he wanted to see the video of officials checking bags of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
In a video shared by Sena (UBT) on X, officials were seen inspecting the former chief minister’s bags after they were asked to show identity cards.
“How much lower will the ‘Election Commission’ go?” the party said in its latest post.
“The way you inspected my bag, did you inspect the bags of Modi and Shah?” he asked, adding, “Shouldn’t the bags of chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis be checked?”
“All these useless things are going on. I don’t consider it democratic. This can’t be a democracy. In a democracy, no one is big or small,” Thackeray said.
He further said that if election authorities do not inspect the bags of senior leaders from the ruling alliance, then workers from Shiv Sena (UBT) and the opposition MVA will do so.
