JioCinema down: Streaming platform faces major outage during IPL 2025 auction livestream

JioCinema, the official streaming partner for the Indian Premier League (IPL), experienced widespread service disruptions during the 2025 IPL Mega Auction on Sunday, leaving thousands of viewers unable to access the live stream. According to DownDetector, approximately 40% of users are experiencing issues with app while 30% facing problems with website.
Users attempting to watch the auction were met with an error message reading “Something went wrong. Error message 419,” prompting an immediate backlash on social media platforms. The streaming service, which holds exclusive digital rights for the IPL, faced particular criticism given the high-profile nature of the event.
The outage affected both the platform’s website and mobile applications, with users reporting inability to log into their accounts or access the live stream.
Social media users were quick to highlight JioCinema’s history of technical difficulties during major sporting events. “Whether it’s the FIFA World Cup, IPL matches, or even the auction, JioCinema’s server crashes are inevitable,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Some viewers called for the streaming rights to be returned to Disney+ Hotstar, citing its “better UI and overall experience.”
The services were eventually restored, as the auction began.
The timing of the outage was particularly problematic as the IPL auction represents one of cricket’s most-watched business events, where teams bid for players to build their squads for the upcoming season.
JioCinema, owned by Reliance Industries’ digital arm, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or the measures being taken to prevent similar incidents during the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
