They will rely heavily on their Indian core and hope that they remain available during the tournament. It was already clear from their key Indian players, especially the batsmen, that they would use the auction to build a bowling attack. And so they brought in Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar – two exceptional new-ball bowlers – who would ensure they could utilize Jasprit Bumrah in the second half of the innings. But what was surprising was their investment in foreign players, where six of them lacked experience. Three of them – Ryan Ryan Rickelton, Bevon-John Jacobs and Allah Ghazanfar are new. IPLAnd more importantly, it remains to be seen who will be their first-choice wicketkeeper as they do not have any big, established names behind the stumps. They have the option of playing Rickelton, but that would mean the Jacks would remain outside the top three. So starting with Minja or Srijit could be an option and bring in one of their overseas players as an impact player. There is no doubt that this is a glaring hole, but given their strong Indian roots, one would hope they have it covered.

They have never been a franchise that pays much attention to spinners and it showed this time too. Mitchell Santner will be a sure shot starter and the addition of mystery spinner Ghazanfar could come in handy.
