In a complaint, a man named Sureshkumar Laxman Thakor said that Khyati Hospital had organized a medical camp on October 10 at his village Waghroda in Kadi taluka of Mehsana. He said his 85-year-old grandfather had attended the camp and was among a group of people taken by bus to a hospital in Ahmedabad where he was told that two of his arteries were blocked.
The complaint states that the elderly man underwent angioplasty and died in the hospital on October 15.
Another complaint was filed by Jitendra Mulji Chavda of Khavad village of Kadi, Mehsana.
He said Khyati Hospital had organized a medical camp in his village on March 5, 2023, where his father Mulji Ram Chavda (85) and mother Champa Chavda (80) were told that he had a heart problem. He was taken to the hospital on March 6 along with 10-12 other people. Both reportedly underwent angioplasty surgery and were discharged on March 7, 2023. On March 20, 2023, Mulji Chavda suffered chest pain and was admitted to hospital, where he died. on March 23, 2023, the complaint said.
The third complaint was lodged by Lakshmi of Vinayakpura village of Kadi, Mehsana. She alleged that Khyati Hospital had organized a free medical camp in their village on October 6, where her husband, 75-year-old Ganpat Chhagan Vanand, was told that his arteries were blocked. He was taken to Ahmedabad hospital where he reportedly underwent angiography and angioplasty. While he was undergoing treatment, his condition deteriorated and he was referred to the hospital, where he died on November 4, the complaint said.
The three complainants alleged that these procedures were the result of fraud committed by the hospital under the PMJAY scheme.
However, the crime branch is yet to proceed on these complaints before the health department investigates. talking to Indian ExpressJoint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Crime, Sharad Singhal, said, “When it comes to cases of medical negligence and their prosecution, we require a written report from the health department stating that the doctor at Khyati Hospital Have committed this act together. This falls under the category of culpable homicide. This is a highly technical matter and the Supreme Court’s 2023 judgment says that any such criminal case should be investigated by an expert from the health department. We have written to the health department and will wait for the report.
