A court in Chinsurah in Hooghly district on Thursday awarded death sentence to seven people, including local gangster Vishal Das, for murdering a 23-year-old man and dismembering his body in October 2020. ,

Chinsurah Fast Track Court Judge Shiv Shankar Ghosh had convicted him three days ago.

According to the prosecution, a total of nine people were arrested for the murder of Toto driver Vishnu Mal.

One of the accused later became a government witness.

Public prosecutor Biwas Chattopadhyay said: “Seven people, including Vishal Das, were convicted under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). One of the accused, Mantu Ghosh, had helped in disposing of the body. Therefore, he was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

According to the police case, Vishal Das, a notorious criminal from Chunchura, kidnapped 23-year-old youth Vishnu Mal from Rarebar area in October 2020, because Vishnu Mal was dating the woman whom Vishal was in love with.

When Mal refused to end his relationship with the woman, Vishal Das and his associates murdered him and cut his body into several pieces.
