Border-Gavaskar Trophy: What India is doing in Canberra, updates on Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir and others

The Indian cricket team has landed in Canberra and the Rohit Sharma-led side will play a two-day day-night match against Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval from November 30. The visitors are fresh from an emphatic win over Australia in the series opener in Perth, where they won by 295 runs.
India captain Rohit could not play in this match as he wanted to spend some time with his family and newborn child but he joined the team when the Test was going on in Perth. The right-handed batsman has completed the practice session and will now take charge of the unit from the second Test starting on December 6 in Adelaide.

  • November 29: Afternoon practice

  • 1 December: Practice match vs PM XI
  • 2 December: Travel Day – Canberra to Adelaide

Latest Updates on Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill injured his left thumb during match simulation in Perth before the start of the series and was forced to miss the match. During the first Test, he was seen with protection around his injured thumb, but in the latest travel video released by BCCI on its social media handle, Gill did not have a bandage/bandage on his thumb.
We will get more clarity on his participation when the practice session begins in Canberra on November 29, but the management may take it easy with the right-hander as it is a long tour. In Gill’s absence, Devdutt Padikkal was asked to bat at No. 3, but with Rohit’s return to the playing XI, KL Rahul may be fielded lower down the order.

The head coach is likely to rejoin the team in Adelaide on December 3 and the rest of the support staff – Abhishek Nair, Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate – will take charge of the team in his absence.
