New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the arrest of Hindu community leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in celibacy bangladesh,
“We have expressed deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Mr. Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is also the spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jot. This incident follows several attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh. “There have been several incidents of arson and looting of houses and business establishments of minorities as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. It said, “It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents are at large, charges should be brought against a religious leader who presented legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings.”
The ministry also highlighted concerns regarding attacks on Hindus protesting against the arrest of the religious leader.
“We urge the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression,” the statement said.
A Bangladesh court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Hindu organization Samishta Sanatani Jote leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and ordered him to be sentenced to prison.
Bangladeshi authorities arrested Das on Monday near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Police Detective Branch spokesperson Rezaul Karim confirmed Das’s detention following a request from regular police, although specific charges were not disclosed.
According to Bdnews24 news portal, Gaurang Das Brahmachari, the lead organizer of Sanatani Jagran Jot, said that Das had planned to travel from Dhaka to Chattogram by air.
Earlier, on October 30, authorities had registered charges against 19 persons, including Das, at the Kotwali police station in Chattogram, accusing them of disrespect towards the national flag of Bangladesh during a Hindu community rally in Chattogram’s New Market area. .
