Most of us, including celebrities, have beauty hacks we swear by. It is no different when it comes to wearing lipstick. So, after Alia Bhatt demonstrated how she prefers to move her lips while applying lipstick, Tamil actor Nayanthara has opened up about how she likes to wear lipstick.
“I never swipe my lipstick. I usually dab the lipstick for a more natural, plump, and even look,” the Jawan star told Hauterfly.
Taking a cue from her admission, let’s understand how the two ways differ and which is better.
Sunia Soni, professional makeup artist and founder of Kayakalp Beauty Parlour and Makeup Studios, says dabbing creates a very delicate, soft-focus appearance.
“It lets you adjust the intensity and makes it easier to apply colour gradually, so it looks good. Swiping is more of a standard technique that gives you complete coverage and intense colour all at once, which makes it ideal for a dramatic appearance. Depending on the situation and style you want to achieve, each approach has a place,” said Soni.
How to decide?
Soni noted that swiping adds a slight young quality to the face, and dabbing works well for casual or simple styles.
“Swiping works well for dramatic, elegant looks since it highlights the lips with complete coverage and goes well with midnight or heavily applied eye makeup. The key is to align the technique with your overall makeup style and mindset; neither is inherently better,” said Soni.
As a makeup artist, Soni advises you to try both to determine which best suits your aesthetic circumstances. “Additionally, lip liner can improve any technique by defining form and preventing colour from seeping out,” said Soni.
Nayanthara, too, shared a few tips for the lips. “Use foundation on lips to make them look even. Dab a very little amount of powder,” Nayanthara said in the same video.
Ultimately, dabbing and swiping have unique advantages, and understanding how each technique applies different lipstick formulas will help you consistently achieve the perfect pout.
