The Lebanese army conducted a controlled explosion of a communications device battery in Qlayaa, near the Israeli border. The operation followed explosions of Hezbollah radios and booby-trapped pagers in a suspected Israeli attack, escalating tensions towards war. On September 18, Hezbollah’s hand-held radios detonated across southern Lebanon, killing 25 people and wounding over hundreds. 12 people were killed and hundreds wounded on September 17 when pagers used by Hezbollah exploded in simultaneous blasts.
