In a major breakthrough, the Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with the local police, arrested two operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang in Mohali and recovered two .32-calibre pistols and seven cartridges from their possession. . ,
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said those arrested have been identified as Harinder Singh and Gurjinder Singh, residents of Mahmadpur village in Mohali.
DGP Yadav said the accused were handled by US-based Kulveer Singh alias Lala Benipal, who is an associate of absconding gangster Lucky Patial, who lives abroad. Benipal had earlier planned two separate attacks in Mohali, one on a financier in September 2023 and the other on a rival gang member the following December.
DGP said preliminary investigation revealed that they were assigned the task of carrying out serial crimes Chandigarh Tricity area. He said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward links in this case.
Sharing details of the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek said that police teams had received credible inputs that Lala Benipal had directed his gang members to carry out criminal activities in the tricity area. Acting promptly on the information, joint teams of AGTF and SAS Nagar Police traced the accused and successfully arrested them near Focal Point, C, he said.
The SSP said that the accused Harinder has a criminal background and cases related to attempt to murder and Arms Act are registered against him. He said further investigation is underway to identify and arrest his other associates.
